“And behold, Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him” (Matthew 28:9)
Jesus is both God and man. But for most of his time on earth, He was not recognized as such. People did not understand that He was God, or they did not want to accept the truth. Even his own disciples had difficulty grasping this mystery. When Jesus showed his divine power by stilling a storm, they asked themselves: “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” (Mark 4:41)
Only after Jesus’ resurrection, did his divinity become clearer to people. The women who met him first, took hold of his feet and worshiped him.
Sometime later, when Jesus had appeared to his disciples and then returned to his Father in heaven, “they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy” (Luke 24:52). This is a right thing to do. We should worship no one but God, but since Jesus is 100% God, He is worthy of our praise.
