Will heaven be boring?

Is God boring? He is certainly not! How do we know? Just look at His creation (cf. Psalm 19:1-6)! The human body is a marvel. But that was not enough for Him. He made creatures big and small from birds in stunning colors to the speedy cheetah, the laid-back slow loris to the huge elephant and the hump-backed whale; not forgetting also the huge variety of trees and plants.

Have you explored everything there is to explore here on earth? How long would that take? Yet, earth is just a speck in time in this vast universe created by God. What awaits us after this life is greater than the universe.

What is it that awaits us?

Let’s see what Jesus told the thief who was crucified with Him: “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). The Greek word used is paradeisos which means ‘a park’, something like the original Eden that was created for Adam and Eve – ‘the paradise of God’ (Revelation 2:7). How long will it take for us to explore this park? An eternity!

We will serve Him

Revelation also tells us “His servants will serve Him” (Revelation 7:15). Here on earth we are unable to do so fully because of sin. But in heaven sin will not be an issue, so everything we do in serving God in heaven will be worship. We will never be motivated by anything other than our love for God. This is difficult for us to imagine because our capacity to love and serve God here is limited by sin. Our capacity to know God here on earth is also limited but it won’t be so in heaven. God is bigger than forever, and it will take eternity “to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height, and to know the love of Christ” (Ephesians 3:18-19). In other words, we will never stop learning.

Friends in heaven

The number of Facebook friends you have will be no match for the number of real friends you will have in heaven. We will have eternity to interact with “a great multitude, which no man could number, out of all nations and kindreds and people and tongues” (Revelation 7:9). Just getting to know everyone will take eternity!

We don’t know about you but we are so glad Jesus is our Savior and we have eternal life which means we can be with Him in heaven and on the new earth. We are so looking forward to that!
