Jesus is not merely a spiritual teacher or an important prophet. While He does teach and prophesy, He is so much more than that. More than you could ever imagine or think… Jesus says “I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:6).
Jesus Christ is the way
Jesus does not just show us the way to true life. He is the way to true life Himself. That’s what Jesus is saying here. He adds: “No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, compare 1 John 5:11-12). Jesus is not implying that He is one of the many ways to God. No, He says He is the only way to God the Father and without Him we will not enter into heaven. The Bible states that we all are like lost sheep, wandering in our own ways. (Isaiah 53:6) and that we are “dead in our sins” (Ephesians 2:1). Jesus, God’s Son, has been sent to this earth to save us from our sins and sinful nature. Jesus says: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). Do you believe in Jesus as your Savior? Don’t trust your own ways or the ways of other teachers, but trust Him, the “living way” (Hebrews 10:19-20), unto eternal life.
Jesus Christ is the truth
Jesus does not just give us beautiful truth and life lessons. In fact, He stands out among other teachers in world religions, philosophies and popular books in one ultimate way: He Himself is the truth: “I am the truth” (John 14:6). Notice the singular: Jesus is clearly saying He is the only truth. We can see this in what He says and does. This should be the supreme motivating force behind our life: Jesus is the only God-given truth in this world full of darkness. Yes, Jesus and nothing or no one else must be the purpose of this world and your life. “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created” (Colossians 1:15-16). You as well were created by Him!
Jesus Christ is the life
“He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12). Jesus says of the people who believe in Him: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10) and “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11: 25-26). Jesus has conquered death because He rose from the dead for us, sinful people. If you believe in Him, you will live with Him forever in the house of the Father (2 Corinthians 5:8). When Jesus returns to this world, you will be risen from the dead by Him (1 Corinthians 15:20-30).
Your only way, truth and life
We learned that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John. 14:6). Do you believe this or are you still following your own ways, making up your own truth and living your own life? “Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:14)
