What is the purpose of life?

Everybody has wondered at one time or another why they exist. What is my purpose in life? Is there even a purpose in life? If there is, what is it?

God’s purpose

Many people spending time searching for their purpose in life and come to many different conclusions. However, the Bible clearly teaches that our purpose in life is the one that God has given to us. He has designed us to glorify Him and to enjoy Him forever. Bible verses that refer to this two-part purpose for our lives are found throughout Scripture. Here are just a few:

We are Made to Glorify God:

“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36)

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)

“He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” (Psalms 23:3)

We Are Made to Enjoy God:

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4)

“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalms 37:4)

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” (Isaiah 12:2)

“And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” (Luke 2:10)

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3-4)
