“I am the Lord, and there is no other.|
I form the light and create darkness,
I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the Lord, do all these things.” (Isaiah 45:6-7 NIV)
If you are familiar with the Bible, you’ll know the Lord God as the Light of the world and the King of peace. Everything good comes from Him. But then we come across a passage like this one from Isaiah 45. Suddenly, God appears to be less transparent and predictable than we may have thought. Even darkness and disaster come from Him, He tells us.
Sometimes God’s actions are incomprehensible to us. But we are not in a position to call Him to account or to tell Him what He should do. We are explicitly warned: “Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker […] Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’” (Isaiah 45:9 NIV)
God created heaven and earth. He also created us human beings. He is sovereign — He does not have to give an account to anyone. Yet that is no reason for panic. For although God’s ways are sometimes incomprehensible to us, we know that He is infinitely good and wise. He never abuses His power, but causes all things to work together for good. Even when we cannot see how that ‘works’ in specific situations.
Do you trust God? Are you willing to entrust yourself to Him, even when you do not understand His actions?
