The world is blind to the light

Why do people love darkness more than light?

“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.” (John 1:9-10)

When the first human couple was created, they had a close relationship with their Creator. They knew Him personally. But their disobedience damaged this relationship, and since then, many people have turned their back on the Lord. They have lost the connection with the true light. They have become spiritually blind: “The god of this world [= Satan] has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

This is exactly what John records about the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Jesus is God the Son, and through Him everything was created. And yet, when He became man, the world did not recognize Him!

When Jesus preached and did miracles, some people believed in Him. But many others remained blind. They did not see the light, or preferred to stay in the dark. So, is the situation hopeless? No. God sends His children as messengers into this world, “to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins” (Acts 26:18).

Are your eyes opened, do you recognize Jesus as our Creator and Lord?
