Lift up your eyes to the heavens,
and look at the earth beneath;
for the heavens vanish like smoke,
the earth will wear out like a garment
” (Isaiah 51:6)

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. At the end of time, they will pass away. For God Himself is eternal and unchanging, but His creation is not. The sky and the earth will be changed like clothes, the Bible tells us. God will not just let them vanish, but He will create “new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).

The book of Genesis tells how God wiped the earth clean by an enormous flood, because the wickedness of man was so great. Almost all humans died, and the vast majority of the animals as well. But God did not abandon His creation; He made a new start. The apostle Peter says that something similar will happen at the end of time, by fire instead of a flood: “the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!” (2 Peter 3:12). This sounds terrifying. But God assures us that whoever believes in Him, will live forever on His new earth. This will be a perfect place where the consequences of sin (including death) are no more.

Make sure you are among those who put their trust in the Lord!
