The seed that fell on good soil

Sowing

“As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it.” (Matthew 13:23)

Hearing about three types of soil that do not yield any grain, we might wonder whether God’s Word will bear fruit at all! Yes, it does – and it does so abundantly! There are many people who hear the word, understand it, and are transformed by it. As God said in Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

In the book of Revelation, the apostle John describes a glimpse of heaven. He sees “a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages” standing before God’s throne and singing him praises (Revelation 7:9). These are all people who have heard the Gospel and have taken it to heart. The good news about God’s Kingdom has borne fruit in the “soil” of their souls. They turned from serving idols or from trying to earn salvation by themselves, to “serve the living and true God”.

Has God’s Word borne fruit in your heart?
