The Lord is with us

Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.” (Isaiah 12:6)

Isaiah closes this passage with an exhortation to rejoice, because the Lord God is in the midst of His people. Again, this does not only apply to the people of Israel in Isaiah’s day who literally lived near Mount Zion. For God is also “in our midst” if we believe in Him. He dwells in the church as His temple, as we can read in Ephesians 2:21-22. “You also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” That way, Jesus can be with us “always, to the end of the age”, even though He is not physically present on Mount Zion or anywhere else on earth. His presence in our lives is a great source of joy.

One day, when we die or Jesus returns to earth (whichever comes first), our joy will be complete. Then we will enjoy His presence unhindered and fully. For ultimately, God and man will dwell together in harmony on the new earth. Then we’ll sing a new and perfect song of salvation to praise our King. Till then, let’s practice regularly by singing, witnessing and glorifying the Lord God!
