The influence of spiritual leaders

“Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years of Jehoiada the priest.” (2 Chronicles 24:2 NIV)

Joash became king of Judah at the age of seven, during a time of great unrest. The priest Jehoiada became his mentor, educator, and spiritual guide. Under his wise leadership, the young king brought about a reform: the temple was restored, the priesthood was reorganized, and the worship of the LORD was restored. As long as Jehoiada lived, God’s blessing rested upon the land. But after his death, Joash listened to wrong counselors and returned to idolatry. He no longer remained faithful to the Lord.

The life of Jehoiada shows how much influence one dedicated person can have on his surroundings. He was a bright light that showed the way to an entire generation. Even today, families, churches, and organizations need role models with such spiritual steadfastness. Do you have someone who is an example to you? And are you perhaps an example to others yourself? The question is not only who inspires us, but also upon what our faith is built. Do we remain faithful because someone leads us, or is our relationship with God personal and deeply rooted? Therefore, dedicate your life to the Lord and build a faith that endures, even when others fall away. In this way, you leave behind a lasting legacy of faithfulness and integrity for the generations that follow.
