Who created the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is multi-faceted

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit […] To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:4,7)

Receiving the Holy Spirit is personal. But it also has to do with the community of believers you belong to. As Paul states in the text quoted above, the manifestation of the Spirit is given to us for the common good. Not every believer receives the same gifts. To one is given the working of miracles, to another prophecy or various kinds of tongues, to another gifts of healing or the utterance of knowledge… there is a whole list of spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12. “All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills”. This is one reason why the church as a community of believers is so important.

Nobody has all the gifts of the Spirit. We need each other, like a body needs all of its parts: a hand can’t do without a foot, a mouth can’t do without a stomach, and so on. “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” If each and every believer offers his gifts, the whole body of the church will prosper.

Are you part of a church, where you can use your gifts?
