“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10).
God has given various gifts to his children, with the aim that they would use these for the well-being of the church as a whole. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12:7, “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good”. So, the church is not just a place to receive education, encouragement or pastoral care, but also a place to serve others with the gifts God has given us. As valuable parts of the body of Christ, we all can contribute in some way. To God, the gift of comforting or helping others is just as valuable as the gift of leadership.
Some people have a clear calling or a special gift. To others, it may not be immediately clear. One way to find out, is to pray about it, since the Holy Spirit knows exactly which gifts He has given us. Another option is to ask our fellow believers who see us serving the Lord which task they consider suitable for us. Maybe they see gifts that we ourselves take for granted or do not recognize…
Be assured that the Lord is able to equip you with whatever gift you need to accomplish the task He calls you to do, “by the strength that God supplies”!
