Creed: I believe in the resurrection of the body

Last updated on March 17, 2022

This body that ruins must clothe itself with something that will never ruin. And this body that dies must clothe itself with something that will never die.” (1 Corinthians 15:53, ERV)

The Christian faith is mostly about spiritual things. It is about our relationship with the eternal, spiritual God. It is about having our souls washed clean by Jesus and about being transformed in our minds. However, Christianity does not agree with some other religions or philosophies that the material and physical is inferior and unimportant, or even something we should get rid of as soon as possible. On the contrary, God values our bodies and will renew them.

Ever since sin entered God’s good creation, it has been subjected to death and ruin. Human bodies are not perfect. People struggle with all kinds of illnesses and disabilities; they face physical limitations and their bodies become frail and wrinkled over time. And finally, they die and become dust. But that’s not the end. The Bible says that our bodies are like seeds that are buried in the ground to be raised glorious, immortal and full of power when Jesus returns. Just as Jesus Himself was raised from the dead and got a renewed body, so will everyone who believes in Him.

Can you imagine what your body will look like when it is “great and glorious”?
