Ready to save

“Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” (Matthew 8:25)

A cry for help. The waves crash over you, you are sinking, you see no way out. We are perishing! Maybe you are perishing because of a disease slowly breaking down your body. Perhaps you are perishing because you feel so unhappy in your marriage; no one knows, but you can’t bear it anymore. Perhaps you are perishing because you are financially destitute. And perhaps you are not perishing, but you see those dark clouds gathering in the sky, and you are afraid of the storm that is coming, and you wonder: will I perish?

Perhaps you have also felt that the Lord Jesus is sleeping. That He should intervene, but it doesn’t happen. But you may know, like the disciples, that the Lord Jesus is just one cry away: “Lord, save us, we are perishing.” Every hope of a human solution had been given up. But one thing remained: calling upon Jesus.

What is the response of the Lord Jesus? He commands the winds and the sea, and there is a great calm. All at once, everything is quiet. Jesus saves from the storms of life, and Jesus saves us from sin. He brings a great calm and peace in your heart. Let this story give you the assurance that He will also save you. He hears you. He cares for you. And He has the power to save you. Therefore, do not delay, but say it: “Lord, save me, I am perishing.”
