Pray for more laborers

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38)

Jesus’ preaching and healing attracted large crowds. When Jesus saw that they were “harassed and helpless”, He had compassion for them. These people needed to hear the Gospel. They needed spiritual leaders to guide them, where the
established religious elite had led them astray (compare Isaiah 9:16, “for those who guide this people have been leading them astray, and those who are guided by them are swallowed up.”)

Jesus Christ has provided salvation for the whole world. There are billions of people who need to hear about it in order to be saved, for “how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?” (Romans 10:14) Even nowadays, 2000 years after Jesus’ death and resurrection, the Gospel has not yet reached all people groups — let alone every individual. Compared to the enormous task ahead, the laborers are very few.

The need for more laborers is still urgent. Please take some time today to consider how you could be involved in “the harvest”, and pray to “the Lord of the harvest” to send out laborers.

Do you pray for this? And are you available to be a “laborer in His harvest”?
