Marriage is work in progress

Passie voor verloren zielen

“The husband should not divorce his wife” (1 Corinthians 7:11)

Not walking out, but perseverance and love are the answer to marital problems.

In His Word God gives us a clear precondition for marital problems: a man will not leave his wife. Neither is a wife to leave her husband. (The exceptions for adultery and abandonment are left out here for a moment.)

The beauty of this precondition is that it immediately puts marital problems into perspective. In marriage two sinners always must learn to live together. That is not easy. That is why it is good that they do not ask the question ‘do we continue together?’ but ‘how do we continue together?’

Choosing together to continue, even if it is difficult, is an example of dedication that this society desperately needs. It is a choice that can change the marriage from a mandatory number to a new bloom.

Being married is growing – towards God and towards each other. To be married together is to show something of the love between Christ and His church. Do not miss it by walking away.

God is faithful! Are you?
