Laying down your old life

Passie voor verloren zielen

“All were baptized into Moses… in the sea.” (1 Corinthians 10:2)

Baptism without obedience makes you wet, but not a Christian.

The Israelites had all seen God’s mighty deeds when he split the sea for them. They were all blessed by Him with manna from heaven and water from the rock. And yet … most of them did not really belong to Him. Because of their sins they perished in the desert.

Sitting in the church is no guarantee that you are a child of God. Being baptized is also no guarantee. That God puts His hand upon you in baptism is a privilege. But if you seek evil, you are lost as well.

Despite all the blessings of the Lord, the Israelites left Him. They bowed to idols, they committed fornication, they grumbled at God. And they died. When we experience God’s blessings, let us not see it as His approval of our lives, but as an invitation to stay close to Him.

Only then will we safely pass through the desert and arrive in the promised land.

Did you truly laid down your old life?
