Where was Joseph when Jesus died?

Joseph is a trustworthy and hard-working person

“And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because the LORD was with him.” (Genesis 39:22-23)

When Joseph was working as a slave in Potiphar’s house, his master “made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had”. Now he is in prison, and we see the same thing happen: “the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison”. Think of that; a prisoner who is put in charge of all the other prisoners without the keeper of the prison even paying attention! This makes clear that Joseph was considered a trustworthy man. He did his job well, even though it wasn’t a job that had prestige.

In his letter to the Colossians, the apostle Paul urges his readers to do the same. Even if they are slaves and their work might not be valued by their masters, they should “work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23). Paul continues: “from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward”.

I don’t know what kind of job you have, or what tasks you have to carry out. But let Joseph’s example inspire you
to work heartily and do your job well — whether other people see and value your work or not. God sees it!
