“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18 NKJV)
Jesus Christ gave His life as a ransom to save us. He was killed and buried—but His work of salvation was not yet completely finished. Three days later, He conquered death! What power that required. No human being would be capable of such a thing. But Jesus could do it, because the Spirit of God was in Him.
Jesus’ resurrection proves that He truly is God’s Son. He is the Living One, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty (see Revelation 1:8 and 1:17–18). He has all power, even over death. What a wonderful Lord we are privileged to serve!
Jesus’ resurrection also gives hope for our own future: “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.” (Romans 8:11 NIV)
We are not gods. We are merely mortal humans. But if the Holy Spirit dwells in us, we share in His resurrection power. Then we will live forever in God’s presence.
