“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)
After forty days of spiritual battle in the desert, Satan gave up — for the time being. Jesus returned to the inhabited world and began to preach the Gospel. His message was simple but radical: Break with your sin, start a new life, and join the Kingdom of God that is now unfolding. That step requires faith.
It is not easy to understand precisely what this “Kingdom of God” entails. It is a new world that He is creating. This world has a future dimension, but it is also a present reality. You could describe it as God’s special sphere of influence, in contrast to the fallen world ruled by Satan. Colossians 1:12-14 says that God wants to forgive us and enable us to live in the light. “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son” (Colossians 1:13). When we are united with Jesus through faith and acknowledge Him as Lord, then Satan no longer has power over us. From a spiritual perspective, we are already living in God’s new world, and after Jesus’ second coming to earth, we will finally be completely at home there.
