When you feel lonely, you don’t feel safe or accepted in this world. You can have the impression that no one sees you or no one cares about you and your feelings. In this article, you can discover that this is not true at all!
Sometimes you really like to be alone. For example, when you have finished your work and go home. You can rest from your daily activities and have some time for yourself.
But sometimes it feels like no one is there for you when you want to share something. You need attention and you have the feeling you don’t receive it. It’s as if you are alone, but you don’t want to be. No one cares what you are doing and where you are going. You just live your life and follow its routines.
Also, you can hang out with people all the time and go to a party every day and yet you can feel lonely. You believe in the lie that everyone is just not interested in the real you and your interests or find it hard to expose the real you to someone, because you think negatively about yourself.
Step out of your routines
We need good relationships in our life. Close family members or close friends can make a difference in our life and can convince you that you’re being seen.
Maybe it is hard to find them. Be proactive in finding new friends and do not feel discouraged when you do not find them quickly. Keep going and seek them elsewhere or maybe they will find you on a place you do not expect…
Don’t lie to yourself. It is important to know who you want to be and to act like it. This way people will come into your life who are honest to you, like you are to yourself. When you are yourself, you can find out who you want to be with.
When you feel lonely, you may need a change of circumstances. Maybe it seems like this is a really difficult and frustrating thing: to start over and change.
But it is also a big consolation for you. You can always learn from experience and others, and do things differently the next time. You can approach life differently.
There is One who sees you
When you think there is no one in this world who sees you, you are mistaken.
“O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
Where shall I go from Your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, You are there!”
(Psalm 139: 1; 139:7-8)
There’s always One who wants to help you in your life. There is always one who sees you as you are. He wants to be someone you can trust (as a friend) and someone who takes care of you (as a good father):
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:11)
He wants you to know you matter and that you are unique in His eyes. He shaped you!
The example of David
I want to mention a person named David. People were looking for him. King Saul was pursuing him; he wanted to kill him. David had the feeling he couldn’t trust anyone. Sometimes it was hard for him to trust God and also that everything would be all right:
“Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted”
But in many songs that he wrote he also sings about God, who listened to him:
“But for you, O Lord, do I wait
it is you, O Lord my God, Who will answer”
In God we can trust. He can change your circumstances for the better! Don’t give up hope!
