“God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:11-12)
Jesus has come so that people may have life. And He is the only way to find it! The Bible even says that this life is in God’s Son, in Jesus. And since the essence of eternal life is having a personal relationship with the triune God, this is actually the same statement that Jesus made earlier: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Many people have tried to find life by themselves, for example by living well or by meditating deeply. But the Bible is very clear that this won’t help. Jesus is the only way to find eternal life, since He is the only One who can reconcile us to God. Without this reconciliation, our sins make it impossible to be in God’s presence. And outside of His presence, there is only death.
That’s why the Bible authors stress over and over how important it is to have a personal relationship with Jesus: “We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20).
