“You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”
(Matthew 26:2)
Many churches around the world prepare for the greatest Christian feast: Easter. They celebrate that Jesus suffered, died and rose again.
They remember what happened to Jesus, and they reflect on the meaning of these events for Christians’ lives nowadays. For Jesus’ death and resurrection are the turning point of human history! They turned spiritual darkness into glorious day.
Jesus’ death didn’t take him by surprise. He knew exactly what was going to happen, and when He would be crucified: at the Jewish feast of Passover. That’s striking, since this feast was a remembrance of God’s salvation work for the people of Israel. As the ultimate fulfillment of Passover, Jesus was to provide salvation for the whole world. His blood would be “poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:28).
