“… Bring My sons from afar
and My daughters from the end of the earth,
everyone who is called by My name,
whom I created for My glory,
whom I formed and made.” (Isaiah 43:6-7)
In this prophecy from Isaiah, God speaks about people who bear His Name. These people were created by Him, for His glory. They are now scattered across the earth, but He wants them to return.
Who is God talking about? Isaiah’s words refer primarily to the people of Israel. As punishment for their repeated unfaithfulness to God, they were banished from their land. But God’s love was so great that He allowed them to return to their land — and to Him. After all, they were His people, and that remained true despite their unfaithfulness.
But Isaiah’s words still have meaning today. For God’s love is not limited to the people of Israel at that time. The special privilege of belonging to God’s family applies to “all who did receive Him, who believed in His name” (John 1:12). In this way, people from all nations and throughout the ages can become part of God’s family.
