“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.’” (Genesis 12:1)
God called Abraham to leave his country and his people, and even his father’s family. He had to move to a land that God would show him. And Abraham did. The book of Hebrews comments: “Abraham did not know where that other place was. But he obeyed God and started traveling because he had faith” (Hebrews 11:8, ERV). It was difficult to leave the support and security of his home country, but Abraham trusted God unconditionally. This was a massive leap in faith!
Maybe God is asking you to leave your comfort zone as well. Some Christians are called to move abroad to spread the Gospel. Or they are called to stay where they are, although they would rather burn their boats! Others need to cross cultural borders, or to give up their financial stability. Their only security is Jesus’ assurance: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
Are you willing to leave your country and your family if God asks you to? Do you trust that He will provide in all circumstances?
