Is Jesus our special brother?

Is Jesus our special brother?

Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. (Hebrews 2:11)

Did you know that, if you believe, you have a special brother? His name is Jesus. When he came to this earth to save sinners from the power of death, he had to become fully human for that. But not only that: a new family was created. Hebrews 2:11 tells us that the one who makes holy and those who are made holy are of the same source. So Jesus and all who believe in Him are of the same family.

A perfect brother

He is a perfect brother. At the same time he understands your life, which may be far from perfect. Listen to this verse: “Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” (Hebrews 2:18) He was made fully human in every way (verse 17), so that he would be a merciful High Priest.

He understands

He understands the mess in which we humans live. He understands the power of temptations that comes to us on a daily basis. The great news is: he stands next to you as a brother, completely understanding the trouble you are in. But he does much more than that. He is able to help! He is the one who provides a way out of sin. He himself never sinned and that is why he could pay the penalty. He is the brother who never ever lets you down. He bails you out of jail. Indeed, he gives new meaning to the word ‘brother’.
