“Gospel… the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16)
God saves in Jesus – but He asks our response in faith.
The salvation of people is God’s idea and it is God’s work. We are drowning in the sea of sin. We are not able to help ourselves.
The live-saving appliance that God uses is the Gospel. That is the good news that Jesus dies for our sins and rose from death. The gospel has the power to overcome the opposition in people’s hearts. It is not another teaching, but a powerful, life-giving truth.
God requires that we would have faith in the Gospel. He also gives what He asks from us, because faith is a gift from God. Therefor our salvation is God’s work alone. It does not mean that we are saved against our own will, but that God is changing our will so that we accept the Gospel wholeheartedly.
God works through the preaching of the Gospel. Let that lifeboat always go out!
How has hearing the gospel changed your life? And is there something that still needs to be changed?
