“The Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.’” (Genesis 2:18)
When God created the earth, He filled it with various kinds of animals. Ultimately, He also created a man named Adam. This man was perfect, made in God’s own likeness. However, something was missing: Adam was alone.
Adam was given the task of naming all the animals. He would have noticed that God created a male and a female of each species that matched and could reproduce together. This enabled them to fulfill God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply.” However, there was no companion for Adam. Among all the animals, he was the only human.
This was not good in God’s sight, so He created a woman to be Adam’s companion. Adam exclaimed with joy: “Finally, this is someone who is right for me.” (Genesis 2:23 EASY). God gave them both the command to be fruitful and to populate the earth. Indeed, they had many children and grandchildren. Adam was no longer alone.
What do you think, does God’s remark that “it is not good that the man should be alone”, apply universally on an individual level? Does this mean that every person must always be surrounded by others, or is this more about emotional and spiritual connection? And what are your personal experiences in this respect?
