“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)
The Bible opens with the story of creation. There we read about our origins. The Bible closes with a book full of visions and prophecies about the future and the spiritual reality beyond our observation.
In one of those visions, John describes heaven, where God sits on His throne surrounded by a multitude of creatures who continually honor Him: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (Revelation 4:8)
They are joined by 24 elders, who sing:
“Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power,
for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)
The vision does not explain exactly who these 24 elders are. However, it is clear that they express the praise of God’s children on earth, in heaven, and in the new world to come. They honor Him as the Creator of all things.
In addition to being our Creator, God is also our King and our Redeemer. We can thank and praise Him for that as well. One does not exclude the other!
