Where was the Garden of Eden located?
Some questions remain unanswered. One of these questions has to do with where the garden of Eden was located. In Genesis we read about God, who created heaven and earth. He concludes His creation with the following statement, that shows His contentment:
“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good….” (Genesis 1:31)
But the story goes on. In chapter 2, we read about the creation of man. God puts man in a garden, called Eden:
“And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.” (Genesis 2:8)
We read about “a garden in Eden.” Where is this? To be honest, we can’t give you the exact location of this garden. We just simply don’t know it. But doesn’t the Bible tell us more about Eden? Yes it does:
“A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers. The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush. And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.” (Genesis 2:10-14)
Because of these verses, it is probable that the garden of Eden was located at some place in the country that is nowadays called Iraq. But again, it is impossible to say precisely where the garden of Eden was located.
