10 Bible quotes about hope

Last updated on November 16, 2021

For many people, “hope” is something positive but also something uncertain. If we hope for something, we are not sure whether it will happen.

However, the Bible teaches us that there is a source of hope that is absolutely certain and trustworthy: God’s character and God’s promises. We collected 10 quotes[1] to show you what “hope” means according to the Bible.

1. Psalm 147:11

The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.

2. Proverbs 23:17-18

Continue in the fear of the Lord all the day.
Surely there is a future,
and your hope will not be cut off.

3. Lamentations 3:21-22

But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end

4. Romans 5:3-5

We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

5. Romans 12:12

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

6. Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

7. 1 Thessalonians 5:8

But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.

8. 1 Timothy 4:10

… we have our hope set on the living God, Who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

9. Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

10. 1 Peter 1:3-4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.
